A really huge world (MMO) in space (like Mass Effect and Eve Online) and you get a noob ship. You start off by doing quests and there should also be albe to complete a single player campaign. I will expand on this idea tonight.

where you can get to battle any trainer around the world. Battle gyms with other people watching. Participate in tournaments with other members.

And colonize planets and planets can take up to 100 hours each to explore. And if you are rich enough, take a fleet and glass planets. That would pwn WoW.

Freelancer comes close ? For single player at least, there is a friigging large universe, but as far as i know you can't cap or glass planets 
Oh and you start with a n00bship :/
