DSi Destroyed the PSP in JapanSales wise of course.
This is the weekly sales from Famitsu, a very respectable magazine in Japan.
Hardware - This Week | Last Week | Total Sales
1. DSi - 171,000
2. PSP - 50,000 | 67,000 | 10,474,000
Basically the DSi in less than a week sold more than the PSp have done in a week. Totally wiped the floor.
And if u want software sales then lookie here

As expected of a new console, and especially of a new console coming from gaming giant Nintendo, sales in the first week are obviously going to blow the sales of other, older, and more stale consoles right out of the water, whether they be handheld or otherwise. What were we expecting? DS sales worldwide are up around 80mil anyways.. why even bother comparing it to its competitors?
In my opinion, the DS was a fun looking little plastic thing, but the PSP will always be better simply because of its hardware capabilities, and now with the loss of backwards compatibility, it might as well be a whole new system altogether.
I'm not bashing your beloved Nintendo too much, so keep it in your pants fanboys.

It's not a new console. It's just a redesign of their DS just like the Phat/Lite transition they did.

I'm sorry. Are you implying that the 2 weeks PSP-3000 model old and stale? That's the whole point of this comparison. Sales of the DSi to the PSP-3000. Of course this isn't the initial PSP-3000 sales, but they are only about a week old.

While other people appreciate the DS library of quality games that are always constant and not far away like the PSP. But then again, we are not discussing which handheld is better.

If directed at me, Nintendo isn't my most beloved company at all. I just can't live without the DS :p
