Mother Credits GTA4 With Teaching Daughter Life-saving Skill

On August 27th, 11-year-old Audrey Plique and her family were riding in their 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee when all of a sudden it swerved off the road, hit a guardrail, and flipped four times, caving in the roof and knocking out the back window.

With her parents dazed and without their glasses, Audrey remained calm, climbed over the tire in the back seat, and pulled her 9-year-old sister, her 7-year-old brother and her parents out of the totaled vehicle. Then, with the help of her father, flagged down a vehicle to get some more help.

Her mother, Karen Norris, believes Audrey's experience as a gamer aided her in this unexpected incident. "She just knew, from playing Grand Theft Auto. She saw on there that when a car rolls over, it can blow up. She knew that could happen to us." Norris adds, "She showed the kind of bravery and courage you don't expect from an 11-year-old. She stayed composed. She sounded upset, but she knew the things she had to get done to help her parents and siblings."

Although this is more of a "he said, she said" type of deal, it's nice seeing the non-gaming press put the industry in a positive light. So, forget the entire concept of cars dramatically exploding after they tip over not exactly being exclusive to the Grand Theft Auto series, or the videogame industry for that matter, and remember that one of the industry's unfortunate whipping boys may have aided a little girl in saving the lives of her family.

And she was playing GTA4 how? I think the article should have been more about bad parenting than some girl saving her family.
